Investing in the leadership development of nurses is not just a commitment to their professional growth; it’s a pledge to elevate healthcare excellence,” said Dr. Sonu Goel, Program Director and Professor at PGIMER Chandigarh, during the closing ceremony of the ‘first in the country’ Nursing Leadership & Management program hosted under the banner of the International Public Health Management Development Program, Department of Community Medicine, and School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh. While thanking the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC), the Ministry of External Affairs, and the Government of India for starting this pioneering program at PGIMER, Dr. Goel distributed the certificates and honored a few participants for various contests held during the program.
She continued by saying that such initiatives strengthen international collaborations and are mutually beneficial to countries that share similar public health problems. “As delegates of the Nursing Leadership Management Program, let’s replicate the power of gamification in our healthcare journey in our countries,” said Ms. Fazla, a senior nursing professional from the Maldives, while expressing her appreciation for the program and thanking the Indian embassy in the Maldives.
During the program, the experts taught health management and leadership skills through formal and informal training techniques like group thinking, inciting novel ideas, critical analysis, problem-solving exercises, case studies, and management games. Through ROTTO (Regional Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, National Institute of Nursing Education, the delegates were shown PGIMER’s best practices in healthcare, like nurse-led initiatives for preventing Diabetes Mellitus, stroke, head injuries, and the establishment and functioning of the Human Milk Bank. Through visits to Fortis Hospital, Mohali, and the Government Super-Speciality Hospital, Sector 16, delegates witnessed the functioning of private and public healthcare in India.
Additionally, a networking event featuring a cultural night, unique laughter yoga, and bhangra was organized, showcasing the cultural heritage of participating countries. Based on the program’s lessons, participants submitted a case study on certain healthcare challenges in their nation, which would be published in the upcoming book by the Cambridge publishing house. The participants also prepared an Action Plan for their Country/Institution based on the learning from the program, which will be followed up with the submission of an Action Plan Implementation Report after 3 months of the program.
