TMC protests at BJP state office in Kolkata, dares Opposition

Several Trinamool leaders protested outside the BJP’s state office in Kolkata against the arrest of Trinamool Youth Congress president Saayoni Ghosh, who was detained by Tripura Police for allegedly creating a ruckus during a municipal poll rally of Chief Minister Biplab Deb.

One of the Trinamool leaders at the protest said, “Bengal has democracy. Today, by posting pictures of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee inside the BJP office, we have proved that if the Trinamool wanted, the BJP could not have opened the party office in Bengal. If necessary, we can take over the party office of BJP. But we will not do that. Trinamool believes in democracy.”

Talking about the case against Ghosh, the TMC leader said, “A false case has been filed against Saayoni Ghosh on the instructions of Biplab Deb. False bombings are being staged at the airport to prevent Abhishek Banerjee from holding a rally there.”

Trinamool activists protested in front of the BJP headquarters, and then they marched towards Dharmatala. However, their procession ended on College Street.

Allegedly, no police were seen when the Trinamool was protesting. But when BJP activists came to resist, the police cordoned off the two sides of the road with guards. The BJP leadership has accused the police of inaction. BJP leader Sayantan Basu said, “If the Trinamool wants to do such politics in Bengal, the consequences will be dire.”

Before leaving for Tripura, Abhishek Banerjee, TMC’s all-India general secretary said, “Jungle Raj is going on in Tripura. There is no law and order. It has also the affected media. The police did not allow me to march. We will not bow our heads.”

Tripura police, on Sunday, arrested Ghosh on charges of conspiracy and attempt to murder. She was kept at Agartala East Women’s Police Station, for the time being, the sources said. A case was registered against her under sections 307, 153 of the Indian Penal Code, said BJ Reddy, Additional Superintendent of Police (Urban), West Tripura.

Meanwhile, Ghosh was granted bail on Monday by the Chief Judicial Magistrate court in West Tripura.
