The Congress MPs who were detained by the Delhi Police on Friday raised slogans demanding a JPC probe in the Adani issue and in support of Rahul Gandhi over his disqualification as MP from Lok Sabha. Inside the police station, the detained MPs were seen sitting in a circle and raising slogans. Delhi Police on Friday detained opposition MPs marching towards Vijay Chowk in the national capital, demanding a joint parliamentary committee inquiry into the Adani Group issue.
The protesting MPs were detained and taken to nearby police stations in a bus because police said they didn’t have permission for the march and Section 144 of the CrPC had been imposed in the area, which prohibits agitation on Vijay Chowk.
Kharge said that the protest at Vijay Chowk was held to demand a JPC to probe the Adani stock issue and said that PM Modi was hiding something from the people. Speaking to the media persons, Kharge said, “We are holding a protest here to demand JPC. PM Modi wishes to conceal something from the public. Lalit Modi, Nirav Modi, and Mehul Choksi looted crores of rupees from the government and fled from this country, and PM Modi is not speaking about them.” In other news, police detained Congress state president DK Shivakumar and other party leaders and workers who were protesting the Surat Court verdict against Rahul Gandhi in Karnataka. “Their (BJP) party will collapse in Karnataka. It is on the verge of collapse. They are just trying to blackmail all leaders and contractors. We’re with people, and people are with us. Their voice is our voice. “We want Karnataka to regain its glory,” Shivakumar told the media.
In Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and all Congress MLAs held a protest outside the Assembly on Friday to show their support for party leader Rahul Gandhi, who was convicted in a defamation case. Two former prime ministers from his family, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, sacrificed their lives for the country, and it is common practise in democracies that allegations are made by leaders against each other, but in this particular case, the words spoken by Rahul Gandhi have been made a tool for driving political mileage, Sukhu said.
He added that the opposition is very important for a healthy democracy, but the BJP has throttled democracy by not allowing the Congress leaders to speak inside or outside Parliament. The biggest issue in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections against the BJP would be the murder of democracy, Sukhu said.
