Opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) have criticized the government in anticipation of the budget presentation, expressing skepticism about the Finance Minister’s proposals. Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) MP Vaiko accused the BJP-led Central government of planning to deceive the Indian people with the interim budget. He specifically pointed out the inadequate funds provided for the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts following the recent floods in Tamil Nadu, stating, “They will try to hoodwink the people of India” regarding his expectations for the interim budget.
Congress MP K Suresh conveyed the party’s anticipation of an election-oriented budget, suggesting that the BJP aims to secure victory and return to power. He predicted budgetary maneuvers to appeal to the common people but criticized the government for increasing the price of commercial gas cylinders and implementing policies he deemed as anti-people.
CPI MP P Santosh Kumar expressed a lack of expectations from the government, emphasizing the absence of pro-people policies. He stated, “This government is not doing anything for the general public. I am not expecting anything positive from the government,” while acknowledging the possibility of the government announcing populist measures in an election year.
Meanwhile, in adherence to tradition, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, accompanied by Ministers of State Bhagwat Karad and Pankaj Chaudhary, met with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan before the scheduled Budget presentation in Parliament on Thursday morning.
