We Women Want: Paralympian Deepa Malik talks about her journey

This week on We Women Want, an extraordinary woman with an unfathomable spirit, Paralympic Athlete Deepa Malik, joined the iTV Network for a heart-to-heart conversation. In a candid conversation, the paralympian talked about her journey to success and the struggles she faced along the way.
Speaking to Senior Executive Editor of NewsX, Priya Sahgal, Deepa spoke about how she was married and a mother of two girls when an illness confined her to a wheelchair.

TRAINING FOR PARALYMPICS
Although she had been living a comfortable life at home with her in-laws, she did not want to be seen as an object of pity. It was then that she began training for the paralympics and left her comfortable home for a small rented apartment in Delhi. Neither her husband nor her in-laws could fathom why, but she found a source of support in her two daughters, who travelled with her and stood by her decision.
OVERCOMING CHALLENGES
Deepa talked about not just her triumphs but also the challenges she faced on the road to winning 23 international and 68 national medals. She is also President, Paralympic Committee of India and is working to bring policy changes and other functional support to help other para-athletes.
Her story is indeed one of inspiration and moved everyone in the studio. The young audience was full of questions and Deepa was much sought after for selfies long after the recording was over.
