Breaking out of the ‘Kardarshian era’

What makes a woman beautiful? If you thought of qualities like kindness, caring, etc., you are among the iota of people who value inner beauty. For the majority of the world, especially those on social media, there is a certain type that determines whether you are a cut above the rest or just a girl next door. These ideal standards of beauty change every now and then, but the era we are living in can be rightfully called the ‘Kardarshian era’.

Majority of the women across age groups want to have fair skin, curvy waist and a few extra pounds at the butt to look instagram worthy. We are all guilty of coming across celebrity pictures that make us think, “Oh, I wish I could look like that.”

Having said that, we cannot rule out the influencer boom because of which ‘regular girls’ have shot to fame. As a result, the desire to be popular and to look beautiful has made everyone rush to fit themselves into the societal box. What we forget in this mad rush is the fact that everyone ends up looking the same.

A little credit for the same also goes to cosmetic surgeons.

Instead of just following the makeup and fashion trends, there are many who don’t mind going under the knife.

In one of the latest episodes of The Kardashians, Khloe Kardarshian and her mother, Kris Jenner, opened up about going under the knife.  “I’m really contemplating getting my b**bs done. It’s just something I think about all the time” she continued before Jenner cut her daughter off and exclaimed, “Oh, let’s do it together!”

Khloe further said that she wants ‘ample cleavage’ just like her sisters. “I just want fuller. Like when you see me in a bikini, I don’t have like, cleavage. Like my sisters have like this. “

Is this trend limited to the Kardarshians? No. Is it limited to Hollywood? No. Is it limited to Bollywood? No. Is it limited to influencers? Definitely not. We all know someone who has been told to “fix themselves” and how they would look even more beautiful if they ‘just did it’.

One visit to a skin clinic and you’re bound to meet women who have been undergoing months of treatment, which includes getting around 20 injections on their face in the hopes of achieving clear and glowing skin.

The flip side of the coin is that those who are real and raw do not consider themselves beautiful enough, thus breeding insecurities.

However, there is a glimmer of hope with several brands and individuals breaking the glass ceiling. Be it plus-size influencers walking down the runway, another influencer with crooked teeth featuring in a toothpaste advertisement or public condemnation of brands propagating the notion that “fair is lovely.”

The real change will come when we realise that everything comes at a cost. As they say, the grass is always greener on the other side. Just like our social media feeds are a reflection of our best selves, so are your friends’, favourite influencers, and celebrities.  After all, it takes 50 pictures to find the one picture that finally makes it. Hence, the next time you question yourself or have self-doubt, ask yourself if losing yourself to be someone else and looking like someone else is worth it or not.
