Upset over the tragic death of a three-year-old girl who was swept away in the drainwater due to an uncovered manhole, a group of Panchkula residents led by Janayak Janata Party district President OP Sihag, on Saturday, submitted a memorandum to the Panchkula Municipal Corporation, Sector-14, urging the authorities to take preventive measures during rainfall to avoid such incidents from taking place
As none of the MC officials as well as Panchkula Mayor were available, this irked the agitating residents further and they ended up pasting their memorandum outside the walls of the Municipal Corporation office here.
The protesting residents as well JJP members also raised the anti-administration and anti-Municipal Corporations slogans. District President OP Sihag mentioned how the city’s roads were not properly cleaned, resulting in water logging on many roads and roundabouts.
‘This caused massive traffic jams, leaving thousands of people stranded for hours, and many vehicles broke down due to the flooding.’ Said Sihag.
On Friday, a three-year-old girl was attempting to cross the road with her mother during the heavy downpour on Friday, when the girl lost her footing and got swept away in the rainwater due to an uncovered manhole in the drain alongside Sector 12 highway.
However, when contacted the city Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal regarding the same, he said that the municipal team hadvisited the site and are trying their best to look into the matter more seriously.
