Up to 6,834 people have been moved to safe locations after severe rains and a flood-like condition in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, according to officials.
Satyabrata Sahu, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), who is closely monitoring the situation through the State Emergency Operation Centre, reported on Thursday that a large number of people had been evacuated and were now being housed in safe locations as a result of the state’s flooding-like conditions and heavy rain.
“Due to heavy rain and flood-like situation, 6,834 persons have been evacuated and sheltered in safe places, They have been provided with dry food and a free kitchen along with drinking water. free kitchens have been opened at several places,” Special Relief Commissioner said.
The official further said that as per preliminary information 1.20 lakh people, 762 villages of 90 Blocks of 15 districts and 66 Wards of 17 ULBs had been affected by heavy rain and flood-like situations.
The rise in water level in the River Mahanadi near Naraj is expected to cause a flood-like situation to arise in the low-lying districts of Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur, the official continued.
Waterlogging was also recorded at the Pataneswari Temple in Balangir on Thursday as a result of the area’s severe rainfall.
On Wednesday, there was significant rainfall in numerous areas of Odisha.
After the fisheries department’s ponds flooded due to severe and continuous rain, locals were seen catching fish at the flooded National Highway 57 in the Boudh region.
