Ravindra Tonge, a prominent OBC leader, has been on a hunger strike for the past 12 days in pursuit of various demands related to the Other Backward Classes (OBCs). However, on Friday, his health took a turn for the worse, prompting authorities to transfer him to the Government Medical College and Hospital.
Tonge serves as the district unit chief of the student wing affiliated with the Rashtriya OBC Mahasangh. Among his primary demands is the exclusion of the Maratha community from the OBC category concerning reservations. He also seeks the establishment of hostel facilities for OBC students.
Across various locations in Maharashtra, OBC leaders have been actively participating in protests to advocate for these demands. Officials indicated that Tonge was admitted to the hospital due to a significant drop in his blood pressure and sugar levels. While in the hospital, he has pledged to continue his hunger strike, as confirmed by Sachin Rajurkar, the general secretary of the Rashtriya OBC Mahasangh.
