A terror attack outside Tel Aviv on Tuesday claimed the lives of seven people, including a young mother who sacrificed herself to protect her infant son. The woman, Inbar Segev-Vigder, died while shielding her 9-month-old son, Ari, during the shooting and knife attack. A photo of the brave mother has since gone viral, leaving many heartbroken.

The State of Israel shared a post on X, saying, “One of the victims from yesterday’s terrorist attack in Tel Aviv, Inbar Segev-Vigder, murdered while shielding her 9 month old son Ari. She saved his life. There are no words. Only heartbreak. May the memory of the victims be a blessing.”

The now-viral image shows 33-year-old Inbar Segev-Vigder holding her son. She is survived by her husband and son.

Details of the attack:

The shooting occurred in Tel Aviv’s Jaffa area, claiming seven lives. The attack reportedly began on a train carriage and continued on the platform. Police arrived at the scene and, with the help of bystanders, neutralized the gunman and a second attacker armed with a knife. The police were later seen taking cover as Iranian missiles flew over the city.

Eyewitness accounts:

One witness, as reported by *Reuters* and cited by the *BBC*, said, “People were on the ground and they told me to bend down.” The witness also recalled seeing the gunman before security forces rushed in. Another person initially thought they were hearing fireworks, only to quickly realize it was something “much worse.”

Hamas claims responsibility:

Hamas’ Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that it was carried out by fighters from the West Bank city of Hebron, as reported by AFP.
