Zelensky Invites India to Join Second Global Peace Summit Aimed at Ending War with Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced at a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting on Wednesday that he has invited India to participate in a second international peace summit aimed at ending the ongoing conflict with Russia. He emphasized the need for unity among nations, stating, “Unity always works for peace,” and called for collective efforts from all countries to bring about a complete end to the war.

Zelensky expressed, “I invite all of you, all principal nations to join us in this process, all who truly respect the UN Charter. We invite China, we invite Brazil, and I have already invited India. We are engaging with African nations, all of Latin America, the Middle East, Central Asia, Europe, the Pacific region, and North America.” He believes that the upcoming peace summit has the potential to lead to genuine and lasting peace, citing the UN Charter as a key instrument in this endeavor. “This process will lead us to a just and enduring peace. We know how to achieve it, and we possess the determination necessary to make it happen,” he asserted.

During his recent visit to the United States, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Zelensky and reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. Modi also reiterated India’s support for an early resolution to the conflict in Ukraine and the restoration of peace and stability, sharing this sentiment on X after their meeting.

An Indian delegation from the Ministry of External Affairs previously participated in the ‘Summit on Peace in Ukraine’ hosted by Switzerland in June. While India did not endorse any communique or outcome document from that summit, the MEA stated that the country would continue to engage with all stakeholders to facilitate a swift conclusion to the conflict.
