Who’s Paying for Prince Harry’s Extra Security Bill in New York?

Prince Harry is set to make a highly anticipated solo trip to New York later this month, and according to recent reports, he will be receiving extra security measures during his stay. The Duke of Sussex will be in the city during the UN General Assembly (UNGA) High-Level Week and Climate Week, starting September 22.

Solo Trip Amidst High-Profile Events

Harry’s visit coincides with several significant events, including the Diana Award Event, and his involvement with organizations such as African Parks, the HALO Trust, and Travalyst. While Harry will be in New York, his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children, Archie and Lilibet, will remain at their home in Montecito.

Increased Security Following Paparazzi Incident

The New York Police Department (NYPD) has announced that additional security measures will be in place for Harry’s visit, a decision influenced by the infamous paparazzi chase from May 2023. During this incident, Harry and Meghan, along with Meghan‘s mother, were pursued through the city for over two hours, leading to multiple near-collisions involving other drivers and pedestrians. The NYPD’s support for the royals’ account of the event was confirmed in a February letter, which described the paparazzi’s behavior as “reckless.”

Possible Reunion with Prince William?

Harry’s visit will also overlap with Prince William’s Earthshot Prize ceremony, set to take place at the Plaza Hotel on September 24. The Earthshot Prize honors outstanding environmental achievements and was attended by William last year. While it remains uncertain if William will attend this year’s event, some royal enthusiasts are speculating about the possibility of a reunion between the estranged brothers if they happen to be in New York simultaneously.

As Prince Harry prepares for his trip, the enhanced security measures underscore the ongoing concerns regarding his safety amidst high-profile public appearances.
