Christian Angulo, Christina Irimie, Richard Aspinwall, and Mason Schermerhorn have been identified as the victims in the tragic shooting at Apalachee High School in Windsor, Georgia, which occurred on Wednesday. Angulo and Schermerhorn were both 14-year-old students, while Irimie and Aspinwall were teachers at the school. Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Chris Hosey confirmed their identities during a press briefing.
The suspected shooter, Colt Gray, also a 14-year-old student at the school, was apprehended by two school resource officers shortly after the shooting. Gray surrendered without resistance and has been charged as an adult with murder.
In response to the tragedy, Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith expressed his deep sorrow, stating, “My heart hurts for these kids and our community. Hate will not prevail in this county. Love will overcome what happened today.”
Nine additional people were injured in the shooting, including special education math teacher David Phenix, who is now in stable condition. His daughter shared an update on Facebook, confirming that he is receiving medical treatment.
The FBI’s Atlanta office is assisting local law enforcement in the investigation. Vice President Kamala Harris, while campaigning in New Hampshire, commented on the shooting, calling it “outrageous” that parents in the U.S. must worry about their children’s safety in schools. Former President Donald Trump also shared his condolences, referring to the victims as “cherished children” whose lives were stolen by a “sick and deranged monster.”
