US Pledges Support For Bangladesh’s Growth And Human Rights In Diplomatic Visit

The United States reaffirmed its commitment to aiding Bangladesh’s economic development, institutional strengthening, and human rights during a high-level diplomatic visit on Sunday. The assurance came as US officials met with Bangladesh’s interim government representatives to discuss future collaboration.

The US delegation, led by Brent Neiman, Assistant Secretary for International Finance at the US Department of Treasury, and Donald Lu, Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia at the US State Department, met with Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain. The US Embassy in Dhaka highlighted their commitment to enhancing economic opportunities, building institutional capacity, and upholding human rights in Bangladesh.

During the meeting, the delegation expressed support for Bangladesh’s economic growth and efforts to mitigate climate risks. “We are committed to helping expand economic opportunities, build institutional capacity, uphold human rights, and mitigate climate risks with our partner, Bangladesh,” the embassy stated on social media.

Neiman and his team also engaged with Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed. The discussions focused on promoting economic growth, job creation, and sustainability, and involved collaboration with international financial institutions.

The delegation’s visit included meetings with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and a working lunch hosted by the foreign secretary at the state guest house Padma. The US State Department indicated that the discussions were centered on how the US can support Bangladesh’s economic growth, financial stability, and development goals.
