India To Open New Consulates In Boston, LA: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the opening of two new Indian consulates in Boston and Los Angeles, meeting the long-standing demands of Indian Americans. The announcement was made during his address at the Nassau Veterans Coliseum in New York.

Why Boston and Los Angeles?

Boston, known as the education and pharma capital of the US, and Los Angeles, home to Hollywood and the upcoming Summer Olympics, are two of the largest cities in the country. PM Modi emphasized the growing importance of these locations for both India-US relations and the Indian diaspora.

A Step Toward Stronger Diaspora Ties

India currently has six consulates across the US, and these new additions will further support the fast-growing Indian American community. PM Modi highlighted the opening of a Thiruvalluvar Chair of Tamil Studies at the University of Houston, aimed at strengthening cultural ties between the two nations.

Local Support and Impact

The Indian American community in Los Angeles welcomed the news, with Gunjan Bagla, CEO of Amritt Inc, praising the government for listening to their needs. This move is expected to facilitate emergency travel, boost engagement with local businesses, and enhance India’s presence on the Pacific Rim.
