Three students sustained minor injuries in a fire at Isiolo Girls High School in Isiolo County, Kenya, according to local authorities. The incident occurred just one day after a separate blaze claimed the lives of over 20 people at an elementary school for boys.
On Saturday, the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) reported on social media that Isiolo Girls High School was engulfed in flames, with several students reportedly trapped inside. By Sunday, the Kenya Red Cross updated the situation, confirming that the fire had been contained and that the injuries were not severe.
This fire follows a tragic event on Friday at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri County. The dormitory fire at this elementary school resulted in the deaths of at least 21 individuals. Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura stated that 19 bodies were recovered from the scene, while two additional fatalities occurred after victims were transported to a hospital.
Mwaura extended his condolences to the victims’ families on behalf of the government, highlighting the gravity of the situation and the ongoing response efforts.
