Ex-FBI Official Warns Trump Could Be A Russian ‘Asset’ If Re-elected

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe has expressed concerns that Donald Trump could be viewed as a Russian “asset” if he wins the upcoming election. McCabe shared his warning on the One Decision podcast, hosted by Sir Richard Dearlove, the former head of British intelligence agency MI6.

Trump’s Approach to Russia Raises Questions

While McCabe stopped short of calling Trump a “recruited” asset, he pointed out the former president’s unusual stance toward Russia and Vladimir Putin. Trump’s behavior in private meetings and public comments has often been seen as overly favorable toward Putin, according to McCabe.

He remarked, “Donald Trump’s relationship with Vladimir Putin is like no other president’s, Republican or Democrat.” McCabe’s concerns stem from Trump’s actions, particularly his conduct during phone calls and face-to-face meetings with the Russian leader, which raise serious questions about his motivations.

Long-standing Suspicion

Suspicion about Trump being influenced by Russia dates back to the FBI’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election. Trump’s admiration for Putin, along with his controversial views on Ukraine and NATO, has fueled concerns about a potential Russian connection.

McCabe elaborated, “Why does Trump have this fawning admiration for Putin? It’s a question that’s been raised for years, and his actions only heighten these concerns.”

Potential Consequences of a Second Trump Term

McCabe also expressed concern over the implications of a second Trump presidency. He noted that Russia has long sought to create chaos in the American political system. “Russia’s desire to wreak havoc has been ongoing for decades. A second Trump term could present further risks in this area,” McCabe warned.

His comments highlight the ongoing debate over Trump’s ties to Russia and the potential implications for US foreign policy.
