Online nominations and recommendations for the Padma Awards 2024, which will be announced on Republic Day 2024, will be accepted until 15 September, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) announced on Wednesday.
The nomination period for the Padma Awards (Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri) began on May 1. The Padma Awards are among the highest civilian honors in India. These Awards, which were established in 1954, are presented each year on the occasion of Republic Day.
Padma Award nominations and recommendations will be accepted online at the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal (https://awards.gov.in).
The award recognizes “work of distinction” and is given for distinguished and exceptional achievements/service in all fields/disciplines, including art, literature, and education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, civil service, and trade and industry. These Awards are open to all people, regardless of race, occupation, position, or gender.
Except for doctors and scientists, government employees, including those working for Public Sector Units, are not eligible for Padma Awards.
The government is committed to renaming the Padma Awards “People’s Padma.” As a result, all citizens are encouraged to make nominations and recommendations, including self-nomination.
“Concerted efforts may be made to identify talented persons whose excellence and achievements really deserve to be recognized from amongst women, weaker sections of the society, Scheduled Castes and Schedules Tribes, divyang persons and who are doing selfless service to the society,” said the MHA.
The nominations and recommendations should include all relevant details specified in the format available on the above-mentioned Portal, as well as a citation in narrative form (maximum 800 words) clearly highlighting the person recommender’s distinguished and exceptional achievements and service in her/his respective field and discipline, it said.
