After A.R. Rahman, Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty has claimed that nobody offered him work in Hindi films after his win at the Academy awards. It was because of this that he nearly had a breakdown.

In response to a tweet by filmmaker Shekhar Gupta, Resul tweeted, “Dear @shekharkapur ask me about it, I had gone through near breakdown as nobody was giving me work in Hindi films and regional cinema held me tight after I won the Oscar. There were production houses that told me to my face that we don’t need you.”

“Much later when I discussed this with my Academy members friends they told me about ‘Oscar curse’! It’s faced by everybody! I enjoyed going through that phase when you are on top of the world and when you know people reject you, it’s the biggest reality check!” he added.

Resul went ahead to clarify that he also doesn’t like the direction in which the whole nepotism debate is going and he doesn’t blame anybody for not signing him in his or her films.

Amid the insider versus outsider debate, musical maestro A.R. Rahman recently opened up about the prevalence of a “gang”, which is spreading false rumours about him. To which, Shekhar Kapur responded, “You know what your problem is A.R. Rahman? You went and got Oscars. An Oscar is the kiss of death in Bollywood. It proves you have more talent than Bollywood can handle.”
