With the national capital reeling under a fresh spike in Covid-19 cases, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain clarified on Monday that there are no plans to reimpose the lockdown. Stressing that the “third wave is past its peak,” he said, “There will be no reimposition of the lockdown in Delhi. I don’t think it will be an effective step now. Wearing of masks by everyone will be more beneficial.”

Over the last week, the city contributed the maximum number of new cases in the country, breaching the 8,500-mark for a day and recording over 51,000 cases during the week. Currently, Delhi has over 4 lakh cases of Covid-19.

Governor of the neighbouring state of Haryana, Satyadeo Narain Arya, also tested positive for Covid-19 and was admitted to a private hospital in Mohali, Punjab. The 81-year-old governor is currently admitted in the ICU.

Nationwide, there are 4,65,478 active cases right now, which comprises 5.26 percent of the total caseload. India has recorded 88,45,127 confirmed Covid-19 cases so far, including 1,30,070 deaths, according to the data updated at 8 am, which took into account 435 new fatalities. The COVID-19 case fatality rate stands at 1.47 percent.

A total of 82,49,579 people have also recuperated from Covid-19 in the country as of date, pushing the national recovery rate to 93.27 per cent.. The number of active cases also remained below 5 lakhs for the sixth consecutive day. However, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka have reported the highest number of cases, and infections are rising rapidly in other states like Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

On Monday, Mumbai reported 409 fresh Covid-19 cases, its lowest single-day addition since May, taking the tally to 2,70,113, the city civic body said. 12 patients succumbed to the viral infection during the day, which is also the lowest since May. The overall toll is now 10,582, as per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). However, with 529 people getting discharged during the day, the count of recoveries in the city rose to 2,45,774, which is about 91 percent of the total Covid-19 tally. Meanwhile, Thane reported 907 new cases, taking its tally of infections to 2,19,473. The district also reported 14 deaths yesterday, raising the toll to 5,521. So far, 2,07,527 patients have recovered in Thane, while 6,425 cases remain active. The recovery rate in the district is 94.56 percent, while the mortality rate stands at 2.52 percent.

Karnataka reported 1,565 fresh Covid-19 cases as the overall tally reached 8,61,647, while 21 deaths pushed the toll to 1,529. The total tally also comprises 8,22,953 discharges and 27,146 active cases.

Telangana reported 502 fresh coronavirus cases, the lowest in recent times, as the tally rose to nearly 2.58 lakhs, while three fatalities pushed the toll to 1,407. As many as 14,385 patients are under treatment and 17,296 samples were tested on November 15. The case fatality rate in the state is 0.54 percent, while the recovery rate is 93.87 percent.

Rajasthan reported 2,169 new cases, 12 deaths and 1,810 recoveries. The total cases in the state rose to 2,27,986, including 2,078 deaths and 2,07,224 recoveries. Active cases in the state stand at 18,684.

At least 749 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Odisha, taking the tally to 3,09,408 today. 16 fresh fatalities pushed the toll in the state to 1,543. Odisha currently has 9,950 active cases, while as many as 2,97,862 patients have recovered from the infection. The positivity rate in the state stands at 5.84 percent.
