Not a single death was reported in the last 24 hours in the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital (LNJP), which is Delhi’s biggest Covid hospital, said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday. The national Capital which was reeling under the corona pandemic last month continued to show good signs due to the preventive measures. Twenty-eight deaths were also reported in the last 24 hours along with 1,056 fresh cases. More than 3,881 people have lost lives in Delhi since the Covid outbreak and the total number of cases now has crossed the 1.32 lakh mark.
The country reported more than 45,000 new cases for the sixth consecutive day. The number of cases in India climbed to 14,93,904 after a spike of 47,703 fresh infections in the last 24 hours and the death toll increased to 33,425. The country›s current Covid death toll stands at 33,537. More than 9.5 lakh patients have recovered so far and the country›s recovery rate stood at 64.23 per cent. Meanwhile, more worrying news came from Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh as both the states have crossed the 1-lakh mark.
With no improvement, Maharashtra reported 7,717 fresh Covid-19 cases and ranked first in the country with highest Covid caseload. 10,333 patients got discharged and 282 fatalities were recorded here in the last 24 hours. The state so far has recorded a total 3,91,440 cases including 2,32,277 recoveries. 14,165 patients lost their lives in the state and 1,44,694 cases are active. Recovery rate stood at 59.34%.
Tamil Nadu showed bad signs and reported 6972 fresh cases, pushing the overall tally to more than 2.27 lakh. While the total fatalities stood at 3,659, 88 new deaths were also reported. As many as 4,707 persons were discharged in a single day, taking the total recoveries to 1,66,956, leaving 57,073 active cases. Over 61,000 samples were tested in the state’s 119 testing facilities.
The pandemic has hit the southern states badly and due to poor medical infrastructure and response, the coronavirus situation has brought down Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh on their knees. The total number of cases in both the states has crossed the 1-lakh mark. Andhra CM Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy said that they had to live with Coronavirus as the infection rate continued its upward climb in the state. Andhra Pradesh recorded an addition of 7,948 new cases taking the tally to 1,10,297. The active cases stood at 56,527 and the number of recovered cases at 52,622. Death toll rose to 1,148 with 58 fresh deaths.
Karnataka too reported 5,536 new coronavirus cases and 102 deaths in the last twenty-four hours. The total number of cases in the state stands at 1,07,001 including 64,434 active cases and 2,055 deaths. Kerala which is battling the outbreak since inception also struggled and witnessed its highest single day spike of 1,167 Covid-19 cases, taking the infection tally to 20,894 while the death toll climbed to 67 with 4 more fatalities.
Up north, India’s largest populous state Uttar Pradesh reported 3,458 new Covid-19 cases taking the tally to more than 73,000. Forty-one more fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,497. There are 27,934 active Covid-19 cases in the state and 44,520 patients have been discharged after treatment.
Haryana recorded a total of 749 new coronavirus cases pushing infection tally to over 25,758 in the last 24 hours. As many as 9 deaths, took the toll to 406. The state has currently 6,712 active cases. Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh’s Covid-19 cases stand now at 2,282, of which, 1,224 patients have recovered and 1,029 are active cases. 12 patients have died due to deadly disease in the state.
