A 23-year-old Indian student, Nitheesha Kandula, has been reported missing in the US state of California since last week, prompting police to appeal to the public for assistance in locating her. Kandula, a student at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB), was last seen on May 28 in Los Angeles, according to authorities.

John Guttierez, Chief of Police at CSUSB, announced Kandula’s disappearance in a post on Sunday, urging anyone with information to come forward. The police have issued a “#MissingPersonAlert,” asking individuals who may have seen Kandula to contact them at (909) 537-5165.

Describing Nitheesha Kandula as approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing around 160 pounds, with black hair and black eyes, the police provided details about the vehicle she may have been driving—a 2021 Toyota Corolla with a California license plate, although the color of the car remains unknown.

Authorities stressed the importance of the public’s help in locating Kandula and urged those with any information to reach out to the CSUSB Police Department at (909) 538-7777 or the LAPD’s Southwest Division at (213) 485-2582.

This case adds to a string of incidents involving missing Indian students in the United States, raising concerns within the community about their safety and well-being. Just last month, 26-year-old Rupesh Chandra Chintakind was reported missing in Chicago, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by students studying abroad.
