Senior members of the National Integrated Medical Association (NIMA) attended a Continuing Medical Education (CME) event organized by the Imperial Imaging and Intervention Center, Chandigarh, on the topic of ‘Radiological Intervention and Advancements.’

The CME was graced by Dr. Sanjeev Goyal, Registrar of the Board of Ayurveda and Unani System of Medicine Punjab, as the Chief Guest, and Dr. Ravi Doomra, Director of Ayurveda, Punjab, as the Guest of Honour. Dr. RP Gaba, Patron of NIMA, served as the coordinator for the event.

Experts discussed various aspects of radiological interventions in the treatment of diseases, including PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) treatment for knee osteoarthritis, liver abscess drainage, and FNAC (Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology). Advances in low-dose CT scans for lung cancer screening were also highlighted.

Dr. Tejeshwar Singh Jugpal, Director and Chief Radiologist at Imperial Imaging and Intervention Centre, emphasized the future of minimally invasive procedures in medicine. He described PRP treatment for knee osteoarthritis as potentially revolutionary, noting its ability to reduce knee pain and aid healing through injections derived from the patient’s own blood.

The event underscored the importance of FNAC as a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure for investigating lumps or masses in the body, which can be performed with the help of CT and USG without general anesthesia, allowing patients to return home shortly after the procedure.

Prominent NIMA members in attendance included Dr. Meenu Gandhi, President of NIMA; Dr. Vivek Ahuja, General Secretary of NIMA; and Dr. Deepam Batta, Treasurer of NIMA.

The Imperial Imaging and Intervention Center was commended for being the only standalone intervention centre in the tricity area, specializing in non-vascular interventions.
