The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday attached the property of an overground worker (OGW) linked to the Hizbul Mujahideen in connection with the targeted killing of a Sarpanch in Adoora-Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
The attached property, a residential house belonging to Nasir Rashid Bhat in Tengpora village, Shopian, was seized under Section 33(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, as per orders from the NIA Special Judge in Jammu.
Bhat, an operative of the banned Hizbul Mujahideen, was involved in the killing of the Sarpanch on March 11, 2022. The murder was part of a broader conspiracy by the terror outfit to instill fear and disrupt peace in the region. NIA investigations revealed that the killing aimed to undermine India’s sovereignty and security through targeted attacks.
According to the NIA, Bhat played a critical role in the conspiracy by providing his car for reconnaissance of the Sarpanch’s residence and transporting the attackers to the site on the day of the incident.
The NIA has already filed a chargesheet against six individuals in the case, and the trial is ongoing.
