Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the winner Indian Women’s Cricket World Cup team at his residence on Wednesday, November 5 and praised their remarkable resilience and comeback. He lauded them for scripting history by lifting India’s maiden Women’s ODI World Cup trophy.

A video of their interaction, shared on Thursday, captured the heartfelt exchanges between the players and the Prime Minister. Modi appreciated their courage in turning around a difficult start after three consecutive defeats and social media trolling into a stunning victory.

“You all have done a very big job,” Modi said. “In India, cricket is not just a game; it is life for people. If cricket goes well, the entire country feels good; if not, the whole nation feels shaken.”

Smriti Mandhana Recalls 2017 Meeting with PM Modi

Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana fondly remembered their last meeting with the Prime Minister after the 2017 World Cup, where India finished runners-up. “When we met you in 2017, we couldn’t bring the trophy. Your words helped us a lot for the next six to seven years. It was our destiny to win the first World Cup in India. You have always been our inspiration,” she said.

Mandhana also mentioned how seeing women succeed in various fields, including ISRO, continues to motivate the team to perform better.
