Mark Sanchez, former NFL quarterback and Fox Sports analyst, is in stable condition after being hospitalized with stab wounds following a violent altercation near downtown Indianapolis shortly after midnight on Saturday. The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m., where police responded to reports of a fight between two men resulting in one suffering stab wounds and another with cuts. Sanchez, 38, was in Indiana to cover Sunday’s Colts-Raiders NFL game for Fox Sports.

Authorities have charged Sanchez with battery causing injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication, all classified as misdemeanors. He has not been booked into jail as he remains hospitalized, and final prosecution decisions are pending from the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. The prosecutor’s office did not immediately respond to press inquiries.

What Led to the Street Altercation?

According to police statements and media reports, Sanchez was involved in a physical confrontation with a food delivery driver, allegedly over the driver’s parking location. The delivery driver said he was challenged by Sanchez, who reportedly used pepper spray during the encounter and became aggressive over where the car was parked in an alley. The fight escalated and ended with Sanchez being stabbed and the driver receiving several cuts. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department described it as “an isolated incident between the two men, not a random act of violence,” and noted both parties were not local residents.
