The US Open 2025 has an incredible third-round lineup as it moves into a pivotal phase on Friday. Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka faces Leylah Fernandez in a rematch of their 2021 semifinal match, as Novak Djokovic aims to capture a record 25th Grand Slam championship.
Carlos Alcarez and Emma Raducanu, two previous New York champions, are also back. As major names square off and rivalries rekindle at Flushing Meadows, fans can anticipate an exciting day.
Sabalenka Seeks Revenge Against Fernandez
Aryna Sabalenka will finally get her chance to avenge the painful loss from 2021. That year, Canadian teenager Leylah Fernandez stunned Sabalenka in the semifinals before losing to Emma Raducanu in the final. Since then, Sabalenka has transformed into one of the most consistent champions on tour, winning three majors.
On Friday night in New York, she will face Fernandez again under the lights at Louis Armstrong Stadium. This match is being billed as one of the highlights of the third round.

World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz is also in action. The 2022 US Open champion takes on Italy’s Luciano Darderi in the opening match at Ashe. The young Spaniard remains one of the strongest contenders for the title.
