Despite both teams having an inferior head-to-head record (3-6) and both singles players being ranked below their opponents, the Belgian team won the first two games, ensuring there was no need for a doubles match decider. First up, Raphael Collignon overcame Corentin Moutet, coming from a set down to win 2-6 7-5 7-5. The Belgian is ranked 39 places below Moutet in the ATP standings, but the flamboyant Frenchman will regret letting his opponent back into the game after breezing through the opening set. Zizou Bergs sealed Belgium's win with a straight sets victory over Arthur Rinderknech 6-3 7-6(4). Bergs, 43rd in the world, was dominant in the match, but could consider himself fortunate to have not given away the second set. Ultimately, the 26-year-old eased through the tiebreak with a deserved victory, sparking jubilation in the Belgian ranks. Bergs said, it was important to remain calm in that situation. Belgium will now face the winner of Italy vs Austria in the semi-finals on Saturday (November 21) and captain Steve Darcis hopes for a surprise. (Production: Bhagya Ayyavoo)
