Australian batter Tim David stunned the crowd on Saturday with a breathtaking century—the fastest ever by an Australian in T20 Internationals. His explosive 102 runs off just 37 deliveries powered Australia to a dominant six-wicket win over the West Indies at Warner Park in St Kitts. The team chased down a big target of 215 with ease, wrapping up the game in just 16.1 overs and taking an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.

Third-Fastest T20I Ton Against a Test Nation

David’s century ranks as the third-fastest in T20Is against any full-member nation. He struck six boundaries and launched 11 massive sixes all around the ground. His onslaught began after he walked in to bat at 61/3, following the dismissal of skipper Mitchell Marsh in the sixth over. From his first ball, David was aggressive and showed no mercy to the West Indies bowlers.

One of the most destructive overs came against spinner Gudakesh Motie. In the 10th over, David hammered four back-to-back sixes, taking 28 runs off the over. He brought up his half-century in just 16 balls and continued his fireworks without slowing down.

Match-Winning Partnership with Mitchell Owen

David’s effort was strongly supported by Mitchell Owen, who played an excellent cameo, scoring 36 runs off just 16 balls. Together, they built an unbeaten 128-run stand for the fifth wicket. This stand broke the previous Australian record for the highest fifth-wicket partnership in T20Is, which was 97 runs, also involving David along with Marsh.

Although David had a lucky escape on 90 when he was given a life, his impact on the game was already decisive. By the time he crossed his century mark, Australia were well ahead in the game and firmly on their way to victory.

David’s Surprise Weapon: Andre Russell’s Bat

After the game, David shared an interesting detail about his big knock. He revealed that he used West Indies star Andre Russell’s bat during the match.

“I’ve spent a lot of time working on power hitting, but now I’m working on my shot selection,” David said during the post-match presentation. “I’ve been carrying that Dre Russ bat around for a year, and it felt like it was the best time to use it.”

David also spoke about what it meant to score his first international century. “Was just having a great time in the middle playing for Australia. It was nice to have a period at home and get my body right. I didn’t think I would get the opportunity to get a hundred for Australia, so I’m stoked,” he added.
