India skipper Suryakumar Yadav made his mark in the record books, joining an elite group of players by hitting 150 sixes in T20 internationals. The free-flowing batter achieved the feat in the rain-affected first T20I against Australia at Manuka Oval in Canberra on Wednesday.

Suryakumar became a part of an elite group that includes Rohit Sharma (205), Muhammad Waseem (187), Martin Guptill (173), and Jos Buttler (172). Suryakumar also became only the second Indian after Rohit to attain the record showcasing his consistency and supremacy in the shortest form of the game.

Walking in after Abhishek Sharma’s fall, Suryakumar was subjected to a challenging spell from Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood.

The early balls kept him under control, and one almost brought an edge. But the Indian captain struck back in classic style playing a ball over fine leg for his first six of the night. That towering blow not only relieved the pressure but also left him beyond the 150-sixes mark.

Rain interrupted play twice, stifling the momentum of what would have been a dominating Indian innings. Prior to interruptions, Suryakumar and Shubman Gill put on an unbeaten 62-run partnership off just 35 balls.

Following the first interruption, SKY continued from where he had left, cracking Nathan Ellis for two fours and another six in the 10th over.

India were coasting at 97/1 in 9.4 overs when heavy rain came back to haunt the proceedings, leaving the match abandoned. Suryakumar was unbeaten on 39 off 24 balls.

Gill scored 37 off 20. While rain had the last laugh, SKY’s milestone saw India’s captain depart Canberra with another record under his belt.
