Radhika Yadav, a 25-year-old state-level tennis player, was shot and killed at her home in Gurugram on Thursday morning. Her father, 51-year-old Deepak Yadav, allegedly fired three bullets at her during a heated argument inside the kitchen of their residence in Sector 57 at around 10:30 am. Police have arrested him based on statements from other family members.
Father Allegedly Killed Her Over Dispute About Tennis Academy
According to police officials, the main reason behind the tragedy was a long-standing dispute over Radhika’s tennis academy. Deepak Yadav was reportedly upset because some people in their native village, Wazirabad, mocked him for depending on his daughter’s income.
“He wanted her to shut down the academy, but she refused. He finally shot her dead over the same dispute,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Yashwant Yadav.
Investigators said Deepak had been dealing with depression for about two weeks before the incident. He told police that constant taunts from villagers about his financial dependence on his daughter hurt his pride and self-esteem.
FIR Reveals Deepak’s Mental Struggle and Family Reaction
In his confession, Deepak reportedly said he could no longer tolerate the humiliation. The FIR, accessed by Hindustan Times, stated that he was emotionally broken and acted out of shame.
Meanwhile, Radhika’s mother, Manju Yadav, declined to give a formal statement. She told police she had a fever and did not witness the incident.
An FIR has been registered at the Sector 56 police station in Gurugram. Investigators are also examining other possible motives. These include the father’s objection to a suspected romantic relationship or a social media reel posted by Radhika on Instagram.
Radhika Was a Bright and Inspiring Young Athlete
Radhika was known for her energy and dedication to tennis. She had studied at Scottish High International School and completed her Class 12 in commerce in 2018. She began playing tennis early in school and turned it into a full-time career. Despite a recent shoulder injury, she stayed active, managing her tennis academy and helping train young players.
According to police, Radhika was full of life. She often posted cheerful videos celebrating her victories—some even featured her father dancing alongside her with trophies.
