In a fresh twist to the IPL trade season, Gujarat Titans have declined Chennai Super Kings’ offer for all-rounder Washington Sundar. This comes as CSK is reportedly in advanced discussions over a blockbuster swap deal that might see Ravindra Jadeja head to Rajasthan Royals and Sanju Samson move the other way.
The Chennai Super Kings' interest in Washington Sundar is a direct response to a potential spin crisis. CSK's spin department is slim with R. Ashwin's recent retirement and the potential departure of Ravindra Jadeja. Currently, Afghanistan's Noor Ahmad is their only established frontline spinner. Sundar emerged as a top priority for CSK not only for his skills but also because of his established relationship with CSK head coach Stephen Fleming from their time together at the Rising Pune Supergiant.

The Gujarat Titans management made it clear that Washington Sundar is not for sale and is still a crucial component of their future plans, despite CSK's intense interest. Sundar was bought by GT for Rs 3.2 crore in the previous auction. Although he played only six matches for them, his recent impressive form for the Indian national team has significantly boosted his value, making GT reluctant to let him go.
The Sundar bid is part of a larger, more complex trade scenario. Reports indicate that CSK and Rajasthan Royals are in talks over a blockbuster trade that would send RR captain Sanju Samson to Chennai. In return, the Royals would acquire CSK's veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and England's Sam Curran. A senior CSK official anonymously confirmed the franchise's interest in roping in the 30-year-old Samson, who has expressed a desire for a change after 11 years with Rajasthan.
CSK’s trade plans took a hit with Gujarat Titans rejecting their move for Sundar, forcing the team to lean on the Samson-Jadeja deal or look elsewhere. Retaining Sundar gives the Titans a stronger spin lineup. A possible Samson trade would cause a huge leadership and strategy shift for both RR and CSK heading into IPL 2026.
