The much-anticipated marriage between music composer Palash Muchhal and Indian women's cricket star Smriti Mandhana was indefinitely postponed after a sudden medical emergency. On the morning of what was supposed to be the final day of wedding ceremonies, Smriti's father suffered chest pain and was admitted to the hospital. The couple, along with family and guests, immediately called off all proceedings.
After this incident, Palash was admitted to the hospital shortly, not due to a cardiac event himself but due to stress-related symptoms. He underwent routine tests and was kept under observation before being discharged with advice to rest.
Amita Muchhal, Palash’s mother, said her son was so badly affected when Smriti’s father fell ill that he decided the wedding should be deferred. She said Palash was ‘emotional and stressed’, and that his temporary hospitalisation was a result of that stress.
She added that he had even fantasised about bringing Smriti into the house after marriage and had planned a welcome, but considering the circumstances, the wise and humane decision was to postpone the ceremonies until family members recovered.
Days after the postponement, Smriti reportedly took down all wedding-related photos and videos from her social media accounts. Many of her teammates and friends, who had earlier shared snippets from the pre-wedding functions, deleted or archived posts to add to the public speculation and concern.
Some media reports and fans have speculated about a potential relationship strain, but close family members have urged the public not to judge hastily and respect their privacy during the sensitive time.
The marriage, as of date, remains postponed, and no fresh date has been declared. Smriti's father is stated to be stable and under observation, and Palash returned home after being medically discharged, though the doctors have advised a period of rest for him to recover fully from the emotional stress.
The marriage families have said that loved ones' health and well-being are more important than any ceremony. Palash's mother told me that when things get better, the wedding will be rescheduled, but she did not commit to a timeline.
