Indian Test captain Shubman Gill has made history by becoming the first male cricketer to win four ICC Player of the Month awards. His latest honour came for his brilliant batting display in the Test series against England in July 2025.
Gill’s previous ICC Player of the Month awards were won in February 2025, January 2023, and September 2023. His latest award marks a milestone in men’s cricket.
In women’s cricket, Australia’s Ash Gardner and West Indies captain Hayley Matthews have also reached the four-wicket milestone.
Outstanding England Series
Gill impressed cricket fans with his exceptional batting against England. He scored 269, 161, 16, 6, 12, 103, and 21 across seven innings in four matches. His double century in Birmingham was the highlight of the series.
“It feels great to be named the ICC Player of the Month for July. This time it holds a lot more significance since it has come for my performances during my first Test series as captain. The double ton in Birmingham is something I will cherish forever and will be one of the highlights of my tour to England,” Gill said after receiving the award.
He also reflected on his captaincy debut. “The Test series against England was a learning experience for me as captain, and we had some outstanding performances from both sides, which I am sure players from both sides will remember for a long time. I would like to thank the jury for selecting me for this award and my teammates who have been with me during the course of this exciting series. I look forward to continuing my form in the season ahead and bringing more laurels for the country.”
Indian Cricketers Who Have Won the Award
Among Indian men’s cricketers, Jasprit Bumrah holds the second position with two ICC Player of the Month awards. His wins came in June 2024 and December 2024.
Six Indian players have won the award once each — Rishabh Pant in January 2021, Ravichandran Ashwin in February 2021, Bhuvneshwar Kumar in March 2021, Shreyas Iyer in February 2022, Virat Kohli in October 2022, and Yashasvi Jaiswal in February 2024.
