Indian cricket veteran Rohit Sharma has been displaced from top of the ICC ODI batting rankings after a short-lived stint as No. 1. New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell has now claimed the top spot with a superb century that helped him edge past Rohit.
Mitchell's climb to the top comes at the back of a powerful innings of 119 from 118 balls in New Zealand's opening ODI against the West Indies. That knock earned him Player of the Match and gave him the boost in rating points to leapfrog Rohit by a slender margin.
Mitchell now becomes only the second New Zealand batter to ever hold the No. 1 ranking for ODI batters; the first was Glenn Turner back in 1979.
Rohit's climb to No. 1 was historic: he reached the top in October 2025, one of the oldest players to do so in the ODI batting rankings. He spent a little over three weeks at the top and during that time held a rating just one point higher than Mitchell's new total.
The latest ICC ODI batter rankings present some interesting shifts:
In the bowling rankings, Pakistan's Abrar Ahmed climbed to No. 9 and Haris Rauf to No. 23 after a 3 0 series sweep over Sri Lanka. India's Jasprit Bumrah retained the No. 1 Test bowler spot, while teammates Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja also moved up.
Rohit's fall from No. 1 may not have immediate tactical implications he remains a core player in India's batting line-up. But this shift could raise fresh discussions about leadership, form, and how long Rohit can continue to perform at the highest level.
For India, depth in their batting order will be crucial. With Gill, Iyer, and Kohli also in the top-10, the team's options remain quite strong even if Rohit's form wavers.
