India’s star opener Rohit Sharma touched an emotional chord with fans after sharing a tearful post from Sydney a day after his match-winning hundred against Australia in the third and final ODI. The 38-year-old batter’s unbeaten 122 off 132 balls took India to a nine-wicket win, saving the series from a whitewash and signing off the tour on a high note.

Rohit’s Emotional Goodbye From Sydney

Early Sunday morning, Rohit Sharma posted a moving status on social media that quickly went viral. Sharing a photograph of himself at the Sydney airport, he wrote, “One last time, signing off from Sydney.”

The message, albeit short, was weighty enough to generate speculation among fans that this may be his last on Australian soil. Rohit, having had a phenomenal record in Australia through the years, looked contemplative as he left after another innings of fond memory at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

A Century to Remember for Rohit Sharma

Rohit’s 33rd ODI century was a textbook exhibition of timing, placement, and calmness. His knock became crucial when India desperately needed leadership and stability following two consecutive losses.

He and Virat Kohli put on an unbeaten partnership of 168 runs, guiding India comfortably beyond the reach of Australia’s target. Kohli made 74*, supporting Rohit’s fluent innings that was full of 10 fours and 5 sixes.

It was a performance that not only reflected skill but also the maturity and grace that has characterized Rohit’s extended international career.

“Might Not Be Coming Back”: Rohit Looks Back On His Career

Talking after the match, Rohit acknowledged that he and Kohli might have played the last ODI series in Australia.

“Always love coming here and playing here. Fond memories of 2008. I don’t know if we’ll be coming back to Australia, but we enjoy our cricket regardless of whatever laurels we get,” said Rohit after being bestowed the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards.

Both Kohli and Rohit have retired from Test and T20I cricket, playing only ODIs as their careers approach dusk.

Rohit Sharma On Mentoring The Next Generation

Rohit also spoke about his role as a mentor of a young Indian team, and how crucial it is to mentor the next generation.

“When I joined the team, seniors guided us significantly; now it’s our turn to do so. We need to guide them, plan the games, and return to the basics,” he added.

Although his future tours to Australia are in question, Rohit clearly indicated that his passion for the game continues as strongly as before.

“I’ve had wonderful memories here — from the SCG to Perth. I love playing here and hope to keep doing what I do,” he further added.

Rohit’s post, “One last time,” was like a warm goodbye to one of his favorite cricketing grounds — an appreciation that even immortals have to take the final bow someday, but only after leaving eternal memories behind.
