Rohit Sharma has made his mark in the record books once again this time by becoming the oldest Indian cricketer to be ranked world number one in ICC ODI batting rankings. At 38 years and 182 days, veteran opener pushed two spots higher to attain World No. 1 position for the first time in his glorious career, overtaking India’s present ODI captain Shubman Gill.
Rohit Sharma Becomes World No. 1 For The First Time
Rohit’s latest achievement was on the heels of his masterful performance in the just-concluded three-match ODI series against Australia. The right-handed batsman scored 202 runs in three matches at a mind-boggling average of 101, for which he was awarded the ‘Player of the Series’ title. His sublime innings at Adelaide and Sydney were reminiscent of his classic self — replete with timing, placement, and dominance over bowlers.
This historic ascent was the first time in Rohit’s 17-year ODI career that he topped the ICC rankings. At 781 rating points, he surpassed Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran (764) and ex-No. 1 Shubman Gill (745), who dropped to third after a lean run with mere 43 runs in the same series.

But his show in the series the most importantly his dominating knock in Adelaide — put paid to all such speculations.
