The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is gearing up for its upcoming elections this month. Five office bearer positions, including the President and Secretary, along with the IPL Governing Council Chairman, are set to be filled.

Reports suggest that Rajiv Shukla is likely to be named the next BCCI President. Rajiv Shukla is a veteran in cricket administration and the current acting President.

Dhumal and Chaudhary in Contention

Arun Singh Dhumal is the current IPL Governing Council Chairman and is reportedly set to stake a claim to the BCCI Secretary post. Dhumal is the brother of former BCCI President and MP Anurag Thakur, who has vast experience in cricket administration and has held multiple positions in state associations and within BCCI over the years.

Anirudh Chaudhary of the Haryana Cricket Association is also in the fray. He is likely to contest for either the Secretary position or the IPL Governing Council Chairman post. Both candidates are actively lobbying ahead of the elections, as factions within the BCCI gear up to secure key positions.

Timeline and Election Rules

September and October are the dates for the BCCI elections. Already, preparations are underway, with different organizations planning how to influence the board.

Even though the Government of India has introduced a new Sports Code that could change the BCCI’s structure, this year’s elections will follow the current rules under the Lodha Committee recommendations, as the new law is not yet officially in effect.

What’s at Stake

These elections are important for Indian cricket and the IPL. The new leaders will make key decisions over the next few years, including managing the IPL, working with teams, and planning cricket development.

As a pillar of Indian cricket administration, Rajiv Shukla is anticipated to contribute stability and expertise to the BCCI presidency. According to the source, he is the front-runner for the top position because he has the backing of several board factions.

Dhumal and Chaudhary’s Roles

Arun Singh Dhumal has a long administrative record and is seen as a strong candidate for Secretary. Anirudh Chaudhary, representing Haryana Cricket Association, is also a capable contender for either Secretary or the IPL Governing Council Chairman role.

The upcoming elections will be closely watched by cricket fans and stakeholders, as they will shape the future of Indian cricket governance and IPL administration.
