In a proud moment for Indian sports, President Droupadi Murmu on Monday congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team for scripting history by winning the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 their first-ever title in the tournament’s history.

President Murmu’s Message of Pride

India Clinch Maiden Women's ODI World Cup Title

A thrilling finale saw India pip South Africa by 52 runs at the Dr DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, as the fans were ecstatic. With this victory, India joined the list of England and Australia as only the third nation to win both their men's and women's ODI World Cups a landmark moment in Indian cricket.

Mandhana & Shafali Lay the Foundation

After being put to bat, Indian openers Smriti Mandhana (45 off 58) and Shafali Verma (87 off 78) gave the team a perfect start by stitching 104 runs for the first wicket. Their partnership set the tone for a strong total, before contributions from the middle order consolidated India's position.

While Jemimah Rodrigues scored 24 off 37 and Harmanpreet Kaur made 20 off 29, Deepti Sharma anchored the innings with a composed 58 off 58. Richa Ghosh provided the finishing touches with a brisk 34 off 24 as India reached 298/7 in 50 overs.

Deepti Sharma Shines with Bat and Ball

Deepti Sharma made the final her personal showcase, first with her fifty, followed by a brilliant bowling spell of 5/39. The South African chase revolved around captain Laura Wolvaardt, who valiantly scored 101 off 98 balls, lacking support as wickets fell at regular intervals.

South Africa were eventually bundled out for 246 in 45.3 overs, with Shafali Verma (2/36) and Shree Charani (1/48) providing important breakthroughs.

A Landmark Victory for Indian Women's Cricket

The victory capped a remarkable turnaround for India, who had endured a rough start in the tournament but peaked when it mattered most. After stunning Australia in the semi-final, they held their nerve in the final to claim the crown.

The long-cherished victory not only cements India's place among the elite in cricket but also stands as an inspiration for young girls across the nation-a promise that the future of Indian women's cricket has never looked brighter.
