Odell Beckham Jr. has made it crystal clear, he’s not done with football. The 32-year-old NFL wide receiver took to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday to shoot down retirement rumors after a fake post impersonating ESPN insider Adam Schefter set social media ablaze.

“No seriously. Plz stop reading everything on the internet, and stop texting me happy retirement before you piss me off,” Beckham posted. “I promise u the day I’m done I will let u know… if u text me happy retirement,” I’m just going to have to block you.”

How a Fake Account Fooled Millions

The drama began when a parody X account, using Schefter’s name and profile image, falsely announced that Beckham was retiring after 10 seasons in the NFL. The bogus post quickly racked up over 2 million views, sparking a flood of congratulatory messages and speculation.

The viral tweet read, “After 10 seasons in the NFL, Odell Beckham Jr. has decided to retire. Beckham Jr. played for the Giants, Browns, Rams, Ravens, and Dolphins. He announced Tuesday.”

Beckham immediately clapped back in the comments:
“LOL… when was that announced and by whom? That’s funny. I appreciate the concerns but this isn’t over yet.”

From Super Bowl Glory to Miami Exit

A former New York Giants superstar and Super Bowl champion with the Los Angeles Rams, Beckham signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins in May 2024. But his time in Miami was short-lived—just nine games, with nine catches for 55 yards on 18 targets.

By December, the Dolphins and Beckham mutually agreed to part ways.

“It’s as simple as, what’s the best for both him and the team moving forward,” Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel told The Miami Herald. “We thought it was a good time to go that direction.”

Beckham went unclaimed on waivers and did not sign with another team for the rest of the 2024 season.

Why the Rumor Stuck

For many fans, the lack of recent on-field action made the fake post feel believable. Beckham’s brief Miami stint, combined with his quiet public presence in the offseason, created the perfect storm for false reports to spread unchecked.

However, his fiery denial suggests Beckham is not ready to walk away from the NFL spotlight just yet. Whether that means another contract is on the horizon remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—he’s not signing off without making it official himself.
