VARIOUS OF SIGNS/ TRAFFIC MOVING AMID SMOG STORY: New Delhi geared up to host soccer superstar, Lionel Messi, amid severe pollution levels on Monday (December 15). The government-run System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) as high as 450, which falls into the 'severe+' category, in the national capital on Monday. Messi's posters were seen covered in thick smog, as fans queued up outside the stadium to get a glimpse of the legend. Messi is scheduled to visit the Arun Jaitley stadium in New Delhi on the last leg of his four-city India tour that kicked off in Kolkata on Saturday (December 13). Delhi and surrounding districts are often covered in smog during winter, as cold, dense air traps emissions from vehicles, construction sites and crop burning, pushing pollution levels to among the highest in the world and exposing the capital's 30 million residents to severe respiratory risks.
