India’s javelin star and reigning world champion Neeraj Chopra has confirmed his spot in the Diamond League 2025 Final in Zurich, Switzerland. Based on the newest standings published following the Silesia leg on Saturday, two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj qualified with 15 points from only two Diamond League outings this year.
Although he did not compete in the Silesia leg, Chopra’s earlier performances throughout the year guaranteed his participation in the coveted season finale fixed for August 27–28, with the men’s javelin final fixed for August 28.
Dazzling Season With Record-Breaking Throws
The 27-year-old continued his good work in 2025. Chopra threw a national record 90.23m in Doha, coming second to Germany’s Julian Weber. He then went on to win Paris, where his throw of 88.16m earned him maximum points.
These steady performances have maintained him among the season’s leading challengers. Chopra and Weber are tied on 15 points each, whereas Trinidad and Tobago’s 2012 London Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott leads the table on 17 points following three performances. Walcott was runner-up in Silesia with a throw of 82.54m.
Strong Competition Expected in Zurich
The Zurich men’s javelin final will be extremely competitive aside from Chopra, Weber, and Walcott. The line-up for the event is also likely to feature two-time world champion Anderson Peters from Grenada as well as Luiz Mauricio Da Silva from Brazil.
Chopra, already a taste of success here, will be targeting another trophy. Chopra won the Diamond League Final in 2022, only finishing runner-up in 2023 and 2024. Chopra has not yet formally announced his appearance at Zurich, although qualification is secured.
Rivalries and Absences
Although the Zurich meet appears to be loaded with top names, one of the big misses this season has been Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem. The Paris 2024 Olympic champion has chosen to bypass the 2025 Diamond League circuit, and the stage now is set for challengers such as Chopra and Weber to run things over.
The Chopra-Weber rivalry has been one of the most closely observed showdowns in men’s javelin, and Zurich might offer another chapter in their head-to-head duel.
With Zurich being the final test, Neeraj Chopra bears India’s expectations of another world victory. His repeated throws over 88m this year have made him one of the favorites for the title. Whether he will be able to win the Diamond League title again or not is yet to be known, but one thing is certain: Chopra will approach Zurich as a big favorite, and everyone will be looking at him when the javelin final is scheduled for August 28.
