SECURITY CHECK POINT AT STADIUM ENTRANCE STORY: As rain fell across Milan, workers prepared San Siro stadium for Friday's (February 6) opening ceremony of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, with banners installed and security tightened around the venue. For some residents, anticipation for the Games was mixed with concerns about cost and accessibility, even as pride in hosting a global event remained strong. Local resident Giovanni Marzolo, walking his dog near the stadium, said he expected the ceremony to reflect Italy. "I have no expectation, but I'm pretty sure this will be fantastic," he said. Another resident praised the impact of the Games on the city. "It brings in new people," said Marida Bianca, pointing to cleaner streets and job opportunities. “Olympics is Olympic, long live sport!" But Bianca also criticised ticket prices, saying they were too high. "The cheapest ticket is 260 euros," she said, adding she would instead watch the torch lighting at Milan’s Arco della Pace.
