So, I just really enjoy it myself (playing outside the US) and I know the players too just because you get to see the impact beyond our own country, You get to see the impact you can have on someone that could be in Spain watching football for the first time or like in Frankfurt two years ago, it was the first American football game for many. So, I just think that ultimately, when you are able to impact people and show the joys of our sport, it's the greatest thing about what we do." 7. SMITH TAKING A QUESTION AT PRESS CONFERENCE 8. (SOUNDBITE) (English) MIAMI DOLPHINS OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR, FRANK SMITH, SAYING: "Two of the last three games we've been able to work together to kind of play the way we expected to play. So, I think that's when you are starting to see the guys really understanding what is needed and how to work together, and the excitement they have towards playing ball together. And I think that's been the best part of two of the last 3 games we've played, learning a lot from Baltimore." 9. DOLPHINS HEAD COACH, MIKE MCDANIEL, WALKING AND GIVING INSTRUCTIONS TO PLAYERS 10. (SOUNDBITE) (English) MIAMI DOLPHINS DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR, ANTHONY WEAVER, SAYING: "It's going to be an honour (to play at Santiago Bernabeu stadium) right? We certainly won't take it for granted and hopefully we can carry on the winning tradition that's been going on there for years." 11. VARIOUS OF PLAYERS RUNNING DRILLS DURING SESSION 12. When we've played over in Europe beforehand or when I've coached around here, it seems like the biggest cheers have been when there's a punt or a kick. So, we're excited to play. I know all our guys are getting ready to go. So, hopefully we can make a bunch of kicks and our punts are going to be good just as last week." 14. LINEBACKER, DERRICK MCLENDON, RECEIVING TACKLE ATTEMPT AND RUNNING 15. (SOUNDBITE) (English) MIAMI DOLPHINS RUNNING BACK, DE'VON ACHANE, SAYING: "The feel is that the stadium is amazing, it's good to go out and to see different things from where we are from, so we've been kind of walking around the city and seeing lots of stuff. It's a cool environment to be around, especially when you don't see this like so often. So, it's been fun being around here." 16. ACHANE JOKING AS HE LEAVES PRESS CONFERENCE 17. MIAMI DOLPHINS TRAINING SESSION IN PROGRESS STORY: The Miami Dolphins trained at Atletico Madrid’s Metropolitano Stadium on Thursday (November 13) ahead of the NFL’s first-ever regular-season game in Spain, where the Dolphins will face the Washington Commanders. Players ran drills and scrimmages as the squad of head coach Mike McDaniel prepares for Sunday’s (December 16) match at Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu stadium across town in Madrid. Offensive coordinator Frank Smith said the overseas trip is a logistical challenge but a unique opportunity to grow the sport globally. “You get to see the impact beyond our own country… someone in Spain watching football for the first time,” he told reporters, adding that the team is starting to find its rhythm after improved performances in recent weeks. Defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver called playing at the Bernabéu an honour, while special teams coach Craig Aukerman noted European fans’ enthusiasm for kicking plays. Both teams enter the game with 3-7 records, making Sunday’s clash crucial for playoff hopes.
