Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen cruised into the quarterfinals of the Japan Masters 2025 (Kumamoto Masters), beating Singapore’s Jia Heng Jason Teh in straight games 21 13, 21 11 in a 39 minute match. As the seventh seed and world No. 15, Sen was never troubled by his opponent and will next face former world champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore in the quarters.

How did the match between Sen and Jason Teh Progress?

Sen never trailed in the opener, racing to an early 8-5 lead. Teh closed in briefly to 10-9, but Sen kept his cool and closed out the game comfortably. A 5-0 start by Sen carried him to 11-3 at the interval in the second – effectively shutting out any hopes of a comeback by his opponent. From there, he was in command to seal the win.

Why is this Win Significant for Lakshya Sen?

This win propels Sen into the quarterfinals of a Super 500 event on the BWF World Tour, amplifying his confidence in the critical stretch of this season.

The Japan Masters is a notable event that has been held in Kumamoto from 11-16 November 2025, featuring prize money of US $475,000, and hosts many of the world’s top players. In such events, going further can improve his ranking, confidence, and also prepare him for tougher competitions.

What is Next for Lakshya Sen?

In the quarterfinals, Sen faces Loh Kean Yew, who has been a world champion and remains a dangerous opponent. If Sen can overcome him, it would mark a major milestone. The Indian will need to maintain his sharp net game, consistency in defence, and tactical clarity to navigate through the tougher rounds.

How Has Lakshya’s Cmpaign been till now?

The in-form Sen, seeded 15th, had defeated Japan’s Koki Watanabe in straight games 21-12, 21-16, in the previous round to reach here. He looks in decent form, showing sparks of rhythm and not too many unforced errors, which have been his bane off and on. But being seeded and world number 15, this is expected of him. The real test will come when he tries to progress further.
