Indian batter KL Rahul of Star India made the second Indian batter to have double figures of Test hundreds at Lord’s during Day 3 of the current third Test against England. Rahul recorded his second hundred in consecutive matches at the legendary ground as he joined an exclusive club comprising Dilip Vengsarkar.
Dilip Vengsarkar Still Holds the Record at Lord’s
Vengsarkar made three centuries at Lord’s in his Test career in three consecutive Tests and is the record holder for most centuries by a visiting batsman at Lord’s. Meanwhile, it was also Rahul’s tenth Test century and fourth overall in England. He is already the record holder for most centuries by an Indian opener in England.
Rahul Starts Steady, Accelerates With Pant at the Other End
Rahul started his innings at the overnight score of 53 and played second fiddle to Rishabh Pant, who confronted Jofra Archer in the initial over. Rahul accelerated with a boundary off Woakes, punching him on the backfoot through the off side. He got into his groove, smashing Brydon Carse for three consecutive fours in the next over itself.
He kept going forward in his innings and kept hitting boundaries against Carse. Rahul entered the 90s just before lunch but was involved in a unfortunate run out as Rishabh Pant had to go back to the pavilion on 74 trying to get him back on strike on 98.
Century Completed After Lunch, But Dismissed Right After
After lunch, the star batter crossed the three-figure mark in a rapid single against Jofra Archer. He joined the rare group of visiting openers with more than one century at Lord’s. Rahul could not, though, cash in on his century in a massive knock, being dismissed at 100 by Shoaib Bashir as he edged him to Harry Brook at first slip.
Earlier, Rahul had also hit a stunning century in the iconic Lord’s Test of 2021 and was awarded Player of the Match for his 129-run innings in the first innings.
