After much speculation over weeks, the rumored CSK-RR deal involving Sanju Samson, Ravindra Jadeja, and Sam Curran has reportedly been concluded. Under the deal, Samson moves to CSK, while Jadeja and Curran head to Rajasthan.

What Exactly Is the Deal and Why Did It Take So Long?

The trade is being framed as a massive swap: CSK are getting Samson, their much-desired wicketkeeper batsman, in place of one of their longest-serving all-rounder’s, Jadeja. Meanwhile, RR are receiving Jadeja plus Curran, the England all-rounder.

One of the biggest roadblocks turned out to be Curran’s status as an overseas player. The overseas slots in RR were reportedly full, which made it difficult to accommodate him immediately. But with the retention deadline now passed, and after negotiations, the deal has been cleared.

How the Trade Fits Into CSK’s Bigger Plan?

For CSK, this isn’t just about getting another star-it’s a strategic move with their long-term future in mind. Samson, with his aggressive batting and leadership experience, is being eyed as a key piece in their post-MS Dhoni rebuild.

For CSK, letting go of Jadeja will be a bit more emotional, considering he has been a vital cog in their machinery for over a decade now and has played an essential role in most titles with his all-round skills. His potential exit could liberate some of their valuable salary cap space and create room for fresh talent.

What is Ravindra Jadeja Salary at Rajasthan Royals?

He is set to return to Rajasthan Royals- the franchise where he started his IPL career- after spending 12 years at CSK. He had earned ₹18 crore per season at CSK, but has agreed on a pay cut and is set to earn ₹14 crore per year at RR.

The IPL has officially confirmed this reduction, showing that Jadeja has been open to facilitating the move and making it viable for both franchises.

What RR Is Gaining and What They’re Risking?

From RR’s perspective, the acquisition of Jadeja brings back a seasoned all-rounder into their fold-a player who will contribute in more than one phase of the game. The addition of Curran, too, gives them a strong match-winner to use at key moments.

All of this could work if RR clear an overseas slot and effectively manage their purse. Curran’s inclusion would only have made sense if they released some space in their roster or made some room for him in their roster. There’s risk with this restructuring, especially since they’d have to make do without some other overseas talent or compromise on balance within the squad.
