India ODI captain Rohit Sharma has cleared the new Bronco Test, a fitness standard recently embraced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Rohit, who is 38 years old, had been questioned about whether he would be able to pass the new test, but it is reported he not only passed but also impressed the selectors and personnel with his fitness.
According to a RevSportz Global report, Rohit underwent the Bronco Test at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru on August 30–31 alongside other India players. The test, which requires athletes to run shuttle sprints covering 1,200 metres without breaks, has replaced the traditional Yo-Yo Test as BCCI’s primary assessment of cardiovascular endurance and stamina.
Rohit is said to have exceeded expectations, with the staff mentioning both his physical look and the effectiveness of his movements in the drill. His performance was labeled as a “big positive” before India’s next matches.
Prasidh Krishna Among Standout Performers
The report also brought to the fore figures from fast bowler Prasidh Krishna, indicating that he turned in one of the top scores in the group. Critically, all players who took the field for the tests during the two days sailed past the threshold.
Successful clearance of the Bronco Test by the entire team is likely to give a fillip to India’s preparation for the crowded international schedule.
Rohit’s Playing Future in Focus
Rohit Sharma has been roped in to tour Australia in October for a three-match ODI series on the 19th, 23rd, and 25th. But uncertainty still prevails as to whether or not he will be playing for India A’s one-day series against Australia A in Kanpur later this month.
The seasoned batsman has already quit T20 internationals after guiding India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title and Test cricket after a disappointing series in Australia this year. He now only plays for India in the ODI format and still turns out for Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
A Boost Amid Uncertain Times
Rohit’s performance in the Bronco Test comes as a much-needed respite for both the player and selectors, as questions continue to swirl around his long-term future in Indian cricket. His ability to maintain high fitness levels at 38 could influence BCCI’s decisions ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy and the ODI World Cup cycle beyond.
For the moment, Rohit has shut his critics up with a powerful fitness statement showing he is still prepared for what lies ahead.
