One of the most memorable nights in Indian cricket, and it had to be Jemimah Rodrigues delivering a knock for the ages as India defeated Australia in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 semifinal. Chasing a big target of 339 runs, the sensational Jemimah played an unbeaten innings of 127 runs, guiding India to a record-breaking chase and a place in the World Cup final.
Her calmness under pressure, along with partnership-building qualities, were so crucial. First, she shared important runs with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, then carried the momentum forward in the company of Deepti Sharma, who provided stability and emotional support in a tight middle phase of the chase.
“Please Keep Talking To Me, I Can’t Do This”: Jemimah To Deepti
Following India’s victory, Jemimah’s dressing room speech revealed a very human side to the match-winning innings. She said that fatigue and nerves had overwhelmed her briefly in the middle of the chase.
“When I was on around 85, I was really tired. I told Deepti, ‘You know Deepu, please keep talking to me, I can’t do this.’ Every single ball from there, she kept cheering and encouraging me,” Jemimah said.
Deepti Sharma, according to Jemimah, played a selfless role — always encouraging her and even giving away her wicket to keep her senior partner at strike. “Every ball, she was saying something positive. When she got out, she just said, ‘Koi na, tu match khatam kar ke aa (No worries, you finish the match).’ That moment gave me strength,” she added.

Team Effort Behind India’s Triumph in World Cup Semi Final
While Jemimah’s ton will go down as one of India’s greatest individual knocks, the 25-year-old was quick to credit her teammates. She highlighted the crucial cameos from Richa Ghosh, Amanjot Kaur, and Deepti Sharma, which eased the pressure on her at important junctures of the chase.
“It wouldn’t be possible without partnerships; it wouldn’t be possible without those special cameos that often go unnoticed,” Jemimah said. “Of course, Harman and I had a great partnership, but in the past, one of us would lose our wicket, and things would slip. Today, this Indian team changed that.”
“One More To Go”: India Eye World Cup Glory
With the semifinal victory sealed, India is now a single win away from clinching the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 title. Jemimah, who spoke to her teammates, finished her post-match speech with words of belief and focus. “Last but not the least, we have done so much – one more to go,” she said.
