BORJA LOOKING DEJECTED STORY: Gimnasia spoiled the party at the Estadio Monumental defeating Marcelo Gallardo's River Plate 1-0 in his 500th match as head coach of the Millonarios. A 55th minute penalty put away by Gimnasia's Marcelo Torres proved the difference between the two sides. The 38-time Argentine champions had a chance to equalise with the last kick of the game but goalkeeper Nelson Insfran denied Miguel Borja from the penalty spot. Gallardo returned for a second stint as River head coach in 2024 having previously been at the helm from 2014 to 2022, a period in which he led the club to two Copa Libertadores crowns and an Argentine league title.
